BOB STEIN

Bob Stein played college football at the University of Minnesota, where he was a two-time All-American and Academic All-American (one of two in Minnesota history) and three-year All-Big Ten selection as a defensive end and placekicker. He played on the 1967 Gopher Big Ten Champion team and, upon graduation in 1969, received NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and National Football Foundation Student-Athlete Leadership awards.

Following college, Bob spent eight years as an NFL linebacker and was a member of 1969 Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl team. While playing in the NFL, Bob concurrently attended law school and graduated in the top 10% of his class at University of Missouri- Kansas City School of Law. During his career, Bob played for five NFL teams, the Chiefs, Rams, Chargers, Saints and Vikings.

As an attorney, Bob spent ten years in active legal practice, representing dozens of NFL players in contract negotiations and related areas.

In 1986 he became the founding CEO/President of the NBA Minnesota Timberwolves and Target Center Arena, with primary responsibility for securing the franchise, business operations and development of Target Center. The team established the current NBA attendance record and led pro sports sponsorship marketing in Minnesota during his tenure. Target Center was selected four times as a Top three U.S. arena. Seven of Bob’s hires went on to become organization presidents themselves. Bob was an NBA/Sporting News Executive of the Year finalist in 1990.

Bob has participated on many charity boards and presently serves on the Minnesota Boxing Commission. He is a member of three halls of fame.
